Mr J Morgan
- Chair of Governors (Foundation)
The role of a School Governor is a very important and demanding one. The Governing Body of a school has many legal obligations e.g. in St. Francis School the School Governing Body is also the employer, with all the accompanying duties and responsibilities.
In principle the role of the governors is strategic e.g. agreeing on policies and setting terms of reference, whilst the day to day issues are the responsibility of the Head Teacher and senior management.
Foundation governors, in particular, have the responsibility to ensure that the Catholic ethos of the school is maintained. There are 7 Foundation Governors. One governor is appointed by the County Council.
In addition, three governors are elected: two parent governors and one from the staff representing both the teaching and the support staff. The Head Teacher is automatically appointed as a governor.
